Meet Missy Travis, MSN, RN, CIC
Missy received a bachelors of science in nursing from University of Kentucky, a bachelors of science in nursing arts from Georgetown College, and a masters of science in nursing from Vanderbilt University. She is a registered nurse (RN) in Tennessee and certified in Infection Control. She is the founder of IP&C Consulting LLC, a consulting company that assists other infection preventionists, business owners, healthcare facilities, and sports teams develop an effective infection prevention program. She has 20+ years of experience focusing on infection prevention techniques and has been board-certified in infection control since 2003. She has utilized her skills as an RN and IP in a variety of settings including acute-care hospitals, large university medical centers, inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, long-term care facilities, and behavioral health facilities. She has served as president of the Middle Tennessee APIC Chapter twice since 2006. She has also served in other chapter leadership positions, sitting on the board of directors, and presenting three scientific abstract posters at national meetings. She has helped implement national grants for infection prevention in the public health setting. She has created educational courses as IP Mentor, which is part of her consulting business.

Meet Shanina Knighton, PhD, RN, CIC
Shanina Knighton, PhD, RN, CIC, is nurse-scientist, infection preventionist and an associate professor in the Schools of Nursing and adjunct in biomedical engineering at Case Western Reserve University. She was the Inaugural executive director of APIC’s Center for Research Practice and Innovation where she championed their transformation to advance science and practice. Prior to joining APIC, Knighton received her PhD, did her NIH T32 postdoctoral fellowship, and was an early career development CTSA KL2 Scholar at Case Western Reserve University. She completed a three-year National VA Quality Scholars Fellowship where she led quality improvement projects and taught medical and nurse residents. She is known for being able to take infection prevention science and turn it into practical and equitable tools for improvement in various settings. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was instrumental in innovating and providing practical prevention tools and guidelines to community members, small businesses, community organizations and public officials including the State of Ohio, the American Nurses Association, the New York State Board of Education, and others. Her practical tips have appeared in media outlets including local news, Forbes, Fox News, Self Magazine, and Modern Woman Magazine. She has received multiple awards for her contributions for her science and service including her being recognized as a 2022 Case Western Reserve University Faculty Innovator.
Meet Dr. Nina/Prevention Saves Lives
Dr. Nina, through her website, develops educational materials and guidelines used by many including governmental agencies to implement infection prevention policy and practices. She has received several national awards in both research and practical application. She is widely considered an expert in infection prevention in the Greater Cleveland, Ohio area and provides infection prevention strategies and trainings to countless companies and organizations in both public and private sectors.
Meet Tamara Behm, MSN, RN, CIC, FAPIC, CER, CQIA, CAIP, CCSVP
Tamara Behm, MSN, RN, CIC, FAPIC, CER, CQIA, CAIP, CCSVP, is an interim director of infection prevention who supports hospitals, ASCs, GI/HLD, and professional SPD organizations in education of infection prevention, products, processes, and standards to keep patients safe. She is an infection prevention consultant/educator/leader/instructor/public speaker. She is proficient in data collection, evaluation, and change processes and possesses outstanding motivational, interpersonal, and presentation skills. She has extensive experience in acute-care, rehabilitation, case management, psych, cardiac care, surgical services, HLD/Sterilization, supervision, and management. She is highly effective at training and coaching to improve performance of new graduate nurses, infection prevention training, and incoming staff. When infections happen to your patients, she can clarify the record for you and explain the intricacies of the expectations for safe patient care to prevent infections in hospitalized patients. Creating an action plan to prevent or address SSIs and deficiencies in an accreditation or state audit is her specialty, along with ensuring safe sterile processing for all instrumentation.
Meet Tamara Behm Infection Prevention Consulting
Providing infection prevention leadership support and assessments to the SPD, ASCs, and hospitals:
Consulting: Tamara provides professional infection prevention consulting for hospitals, ASCs, and clinics to ensure safe IP practices for surveys and everyday life. She can advise when staff are out or be that extra set of eyes for your institution’s current leadership.
Assessment: Tamara offers expert on-site evaluation of processes in the SPD, GI, and the hospital, whether the client is preparing for a survey or it is emergent and is dealing with citations.
Public speaking and education: Tamara is a highly experienced, motivational, and fun public speaker who can educate others about infection prevention, sterile processing, and other patient safety-driven topics.
Meet Teri Hulett, RN, BSN, CIC, FAPIC
Teri holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing, is board certified in infection prevention and control, and has earned the designation of Fellow in the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (FAPIC). She has been in nursing for 44 years. Her experience includes 27 years as a bedside nurse with her area of specialty being neonatal ICU. She transitioned from the bedside to infection prevention in 2006. Over her tenure as an IP, she has served in multiple leadership roles at the local level to include president of the APIC Mile High Colorado Chapter, and at the national level as chair of the APIC Education Committee. She has been involved in multiple projects and initiatives at the local, regional, and national level. She has presented at both the local and national levels and has co-authored multiple articles published in peer-reviewed journals. Infection prevention and control areas of focus include antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship to include co-leading a two-year statewide antibiotic stewardship collaborative for Colorado in 2016. She continues to partner with and mentor colleagues in antimicrobial stewardship across the continuum of care.

Robert P. Lee is the founder, CEO and chief science officer of Medical Data Quality & Safety Advisors, LLC. He has an extensive background within healthcare entrepreneurship and is responsible for the sales, business development and leadership for Medical Data Quality & Safety Advisors, LLC. A former military officer, he led the business development efforts for Fortune 500 companies such as Cardinal Health (formally Allegiance Healthcare, Baxter Healthcare International and American Hospital Supply), Johnson & Johnson, and GE Healthcare. He is also a licensed financial advisor, a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), and an advisor to the S&P Society of Industry Leaders for Healthcare. His experience also includes consulting at all levels of the hospital with special emphasis on expense reduction and revenue enhancement efforts in coordination with department directors and senior management teams.
